A Happy Lunar New Year to all fellow Chinese counterparts out there...

Has it occur to you that in recent years, that CNY has been very much commercialised while the traditional aspect had faded away.

In the past, at least when i was a kid, new year songs were the 10 odd songs that we sing year after year. We made angpow decorations, like fishes and lanterns, and hang them around the house. Make our way to the nurseries to get fresh flowers / mandarin oranges trees were a must too. Squeezing through the crowded Chinatown is the norm as well. The visiting list to relatives would be very well-planned, and we basically enjoyed it very much...

Good old days... ...
maybe becoz we were still kids then... well maybe.

Buying new clothes was simple. Pasam Malam clothes will do, who needs Levis & Billabong.
Grabbing tonnes and tonnes of sweets @ the candy store was like in Dreamland.
Greeting everyone around us to get ang pows was the order of the day.
Making pineappple tarts were so much fun, while mopping the floor for your mum meant sliding around the house, where everywhere was wet and slippery.

But,

Probably for the past few years, as we get older...
We have less and less relatives to visit (since one of my grandma pass away, the family bond has been rather weak, visits between us has been few and far between). Relatives we meet say the same old things, year in year out. Ohh, how much you have grew up, wow very handsome / pretty, so where are you studying now, wow so fast, time flies... ... (长很大了很快, 很美, 很 handsome, 在那里读书? … … ) you get the idea. We avoid going to Chinatown, while others even choose to take a quick vacation overseas. & for those who are older, you probably feel ashamed to still recieve hong baos from your relatives...

Anyway, enjoy yourselves while you can.

While some ppl out there still have assignments and exams to prepare...you know what i mean.

I never realize it, until it has become a problem.
It’s like a drug.

Without it, something seems to be amiss in my life. Once I wake up, arrive home from school/work, I will need to greet her. Fondling, seducing, engaging, fingering, I can’t seems to live without it.

It’s not sex.
It’s not booze.
Neither is it air, food or water.

It’s my computer.

And here comes the hardest part, I have to share it with my siblings and my dad. (its like sharing a girlfriend/wife with others)

And the internet, something that, though it is just the combination of hardware, software, cables and telephone lines, does amazing things.

However, there are some signs that indicate that you are online too long, you computer freak… … let’s take a look.

1. Tech Support, and all your friends turn to you for help.
2. Your friends tell a joke, you say “LOL”
3. “Hanging out” means getting a Messenger Account.
4. Your address has underscores and “@” signs
5. Your Boss / Teacher returns your reports / assignments back, indicating no proper use of capitalization, punctuation and wrong spelling for words.
6. You suffers a identity crisis, your real name and your screen name
7. When someone says, “I beg your pardon”, you reply “Scroll up”.
8. The fastest words you type includes “hi there”, “hahaha”, “icic” and “see ya”.

Got to admit…
It was an entertaining match

Cisse’s “Fantastic plays”, missing 2 great chances to score
Rooney’s covering every blade of grass on the pitch, needing 4 players to track him
Sissoko eating mud
Evra making great runs down the left
Kewell’s blooded nose, wearing number 50

& sadly… Rio’s great header that gave us no chance.

Our attack can’t make it, neither is Man Yoo’s midfield.
At least the match produce a winner.
We’ve have to wake up, go on another unbeaten run
And may the best team get Second Place.

GTG guys.

It's unfortunate... having the match @ midnight
It's unfortunate... that both teams are probably fighting for second best
It's unfortunate... tomorrow's a monday, there's school and work
It's unfortunate... punters are having a hard time to decide

But nonetheless...

It's the BIGGEST FIXTURE in the EPL

Liverpool FC, reigning European Champions
Vs Manchester City's inferior neighbours, Man Yoo

As a Liverpool FC supporter, i urge all Reds Fans to come out in full force... stick our necks out, and show our full fledged support for the team.

At the Theatre of Dream, or shall we say... the Theatre of which the field is infested with mice, the land where prawn sandwiches is the preferred choice, where the ban of chewing gums applies to all but Sir Alex, Rafa's men will run riot, and proven the much needed resistance to Roman's Chelski.

We shall triump, whatever the cost, no matter what it takes. A goal will settle the contest, either a screamer from Gerrard, Riise's rocket shots, Crouchie's finishes, or Harry's Volleys will see us through today.

Paint the town red, better still, we shall invade Devil's Bar, and make it the day, where we give ourselves a fighting chance, at a shot at the Premiership title.

If u have read the Shin Min Daily News, or the Newpaper this week, u would have noticed the news about him.

Yes him.

The Woodlands Flasher. Mr All Natural. Mr “So What if it is raining and cold… I am as strong as a Bull”. Mr "I'm a Exhibitionist"
Thank Goodness, Mr “I can’t afford to buy Clothes” is finally caught, after he did his usual Nude Performance. Plain clothed police were on hand to witness his show, before arresting him for good.

But, what is scary, is that this pervert resembles me. If you have seen my profile, u would realize the uncanny resemblance we share. The hair, the built, the covered face… Thou shall not even comment about his “little friend”. Anyway, Woodlands residents must be glad that this episode is over. No more early morning fashion show.

Well, it nice to be able to make a new post after a hectic week. It is not going to get any better. Shall endure, shall persevere, shall survive.

Til next time.

1. The Internet….without the web, without email, without music and movie download, without porn (to a certain extent), without Friendster for all the lonely people, without MSN Messenger, without Blogs… … do I need to say more?? And dun forget, our lives are never the same without search engines like Google and Yahoo. Yes, we no longer need to search a library so damn hard to find information.

2. Still on information, the constant search for it, i.e. newspaper, internet, soccer updates, TOTO results, why Brad Pitt chooses Jolie not Aniston, Bird Flu Epidemics, we are all curious about the world around us. Information keeps us occupied, entertained, and most of all, triggers our minds to think.

3. Television and (channel surfing to a large extent)…dun watch TV for a week… never caught Project Runway…Amazing Race….feeling kinda empty. Forgot to watch the early morning live soccer match, missed the last episode of Channel 8 drama, the google box in our living room is one companion of ours, a mental support of some sort. Without it, and your living room, and your house would feel empty. No TV, no life.

4. Spending Money…. Here’s a challenge, try not spending any money for 3 days. If you succeed, try 5 days. If you still dun feel the pain, try another week. You probably can’t take it very soon. In modern Singapore, we have quite a spending habit, if not, the Great Singapore Sale will not be an “International Event”, and shopping malls will have endless amount of sales all year round. Without money, the world practically stops spinning.

5. Good Food … Yes, a healthy diet is important, but can anyone resist good food? Especially in tropical Singapore, where gourmet greets you in every corner of the island, it is impossible to resist all the temptations around. Laksa, Chicken Rice, Roti Prata… … Indulgence, Sinfully good and excessive consumption leads to multiple complications.

6. Finally…Mobile Phones…us holding the SMS world record, millions of handphone users, the need to own more than one phone, the need to bring your handphone everywhere you go (toilet, watch TV, must be beside you when u sleep. Our mobile phones are like a permanent fixture in our lives, we simply can’t live without it.

Finally, would like to wish everyone a happy new year, (may you not accomplish any new year resolution)
